The Organized Private Sector Exporters Association (« OPEXA ») was set up in 2015 to provide a forum for the stakeholders in the non-oil export sector to promote diversification of the Nigerian economy and boost non-oil exports.
The organization consists of reputed companies in the formal private sector engaged in production and export of Made in Nigeria products. The major products exported from Nigeria include Cocoa and Cocoa derivatives, Cotton, Sesame, Cashew, processed Shrimps, Rubber, packaged foods, leather and textiles.
Nigerian exports are destined mainly to its traditional trading partners in the EU as well as growing exports to the US, Fareastern countries and ECOWAS region. Nigeria enjoys preferential market access to the US market under AGOA and the regional ECOWAS market.
In line with the government policy which encourages diversification, OPEXA members have invested in establishment of an export eco-system comprising agricultural supply chains, value added processing and marketing. The sector employs over 10 million Nigerians directly and indirectly engaged in the export processing factories and agricultural supply chain who depend on non-oil exports for their livelihood.
